Rakesh Naorem, a resident of Tentha Khongbal in Thoubal District, Manipur, has been honored with the Best Social Activist & Philanthropist Award 2024 by the Manipuri Literary & Cultural Forum, Tripura. The award recognizes his outstanding contributions to the welfare of Manipuri (Meetei) communities across Manipur, Assam, Tripura, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and beyond.
The award was presented at a ceremony held at the Sahitya Akademi Hall, Nazrul Kalakshetra Complex in Agartala, Tripura. Dr. Usuksana, Head of the Department of Manipuri at Dhanamanjuri University, presented the award, with RK Tarunjit, Advisor of the Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura, presiding over the event.
Rakesh Naorem is known for his tireless efforts in promoting Manipuri culture and addressing key social issues. His dedication has earned him recognition at various levels, solidifying his role as a significant figure in the community.
In addition to his social work, Naorem has made notable contributions to the Manipuri film industry. His short film “USE ME (EIBU SIJINNABIYU)” won the Best Short Film Director Award 2024. He also actively documents the genealogical history of Meetei communities across Northeast India through the Patriotic Writers Forum.
