Protest rally held against road construction by Kuki at Litanpokpi Uyumpok

Residents of Litanpokpi Uyumpok today organised a protest rally against the construction of a road by members of the Kuki community in the area. The demonstrators expressed concerns that the proposed road project could lead to environmental degradation, disrupt local agricultural lands, and disturb the community’s traditional way of life.
The rally, which drew participation from a large number of villagers, included speeches from local leaders, community elders, and youth representatives. They urged the authorities to halt the construction until proper consultations with the affected residents are carried out. The participants emphasized the need for transparency and adherence to environmental and land-use regulations.
Villagers also highlighted potential safety hazards and the risk of increased traffic in the locality, which they said could adversely impact the daily lives of residents, especially children and the elderly. The protest concluded with a memorandum being submitted to the district administration, requesting immediate intervention and a review of the road construction project.
The community leaders appealed for a peaceful resolution through dialogue and insisted that development initiatives should take into account the welfare and consent of all local stakeholders.
