Residents of Khurai area and local civil society organisations staged a sit-in protest at Khurai Lamlong Keithel today, demanding justice for six Naga civilians allegedly killed by Kuki militants after being abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026.
18 people, including women and children, were abducted by armed Kuki militants from Leilon Vaiphei. Twelve women and children were later released, while six male civilians were allegedly killed. The bodies of the six victims were recovered on June 10.
The deceased were identified as Rev. Manu, P.R. Kenpibonu, Phenrongwibou, Delip, Kaliwangbou and Phenrilungbou.
The protest, organised by local clubs and Meira Paibi groups, was held from 11 am to 1.30 pm. Protesters raised slogans demanding the arrest and punishment of those responsible for the killings. They also called for justice for the six Meitei civilians killed at Jiribam and the victims of the Tronglaobi incident.
The demonstrators further demanded abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups, declaration of the Kuki National Front (KNF-P) as a terrorist organisation, and asserted that a national census should not be conducted until the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is implemented.
