The People’s Political Party (PPP) has stressed the need to protect Manipur’s territory, put the interests of the public first and work for the welfare of ordinary citizens, while calling for a strong and united political voice for the State.
Addressing a press conference at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, PPP president and retired Col. H. Sarat said the party stands for a “strong voice, united Manipur” and remains committed to working towards peace.
Sarat said the 2027 election could lead to political changes in Manipur and maintained that regional parties would have an important role in protecting the interests of the State. He urged the youth to gain knowledge, maintain unity and actively contribute to shaping Manipur’s future.
He said repeated elections had not ended the uncertainty surrounding the future of the people and questioned what direction the public could take if peace and stability remained elusive in the State.
Speaking on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the demand for Scheduled Tribe status, Sarat said the issues concern the rights and interests of the people of Manipur. He appealed for collective participation and support for the ongoing “NRC wave”, stating that the rights being sought are connected with the people’s birthright.
He also called on Manipuri youth to participate actively in regional politics and public affairs in addition to national politics. While young people are facing various challenges, he said they have an important role in determining the future of the coming generation.
Sarat said a united and collective effort by the youth could generate a new political wave and contribute to meaningful changes in Manipur.
