Pangal Political Forum (PPF) has demanded the state government to quash the order for the construction of District and Sessions Court Ukhrul by dismantling old SDO office complex and adjoining structures including a mosque.
According to an order by Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, the foundation stone of the proposed court will be laid by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on 12th February, 2015.
The order issued by Hrishekesh Modak (IAS), DC of Ukhrul ordered to vacate the areas and dismantle SDO office complex and structures at its western side including government quarters and mosque within 2 days time.
Demanding to quash the order, MI Khan, spokesperson of PPF said that the mosque has been built in 1995 after the state government formed a high level committee. The present location of the mosque had been allotted by Manipur government.
Demolition of mosque may flare up communal tension. The government must stop further process and construction of the court at the cost of communal tension, he warned.
While informing that PPF would launch a series of agitation against the state governments move to demolish the mosque, MI Khan demanded to allot a separate site for the mosque within 3 days.
