Imphal, Sept 26:

Lamyanba Irabot Ningsing Thouram Observation Committee (LINTOC) observed the 73rd Death Anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot under the aegis of the Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM), at Kiyamba Sanglen in Bishnupur. The observance was graced by PPCM Convenor Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, LINTOC Convenor K. Thoiba Meitei, LINTOC Co-Convenors Kh. Gopen Luwang, L. Shyam Khuman, and Y. Tiken, along with PPCM Advisors L. Nganbi, Y. Leirik Leima, S. Memcha, and M. Purnimashi, who were present as dignitaries on the dais.
During the event, speakers reflected on the enduring legacy of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, emphasizing his role in inspiring resistance against oppression and the importance of remembering the martyrs who fought for Manipur’s sovereignty.
PPCM Convenor Pheiroijam Nando Luwang reminded the root of the seven years devastation and the 1891 anglo Manipur war and highlighted that Irabot’s efforts protect the state sacrificing everything. He pointed out that the struggle for Manipur’s survival is still ongoing, with external forces threatening its integrity. He stressed that Irabot’s vision for a united Manipur remains relevant today, warning that the state could lose its identity if external interference continues.
K. Thoiba, LINTOC Convenor, in his speech, spoke about the ongoing efforts to protect the state from becoming part of a larger Northeastern region and the need for vigilance to prevent Manipur from losing its distinct identity. He recounted the events leading up to Irabot’s death on September 26, 1951, in Tangbo, Burma, and noted that the observance of this day serves as a reminder of his sacrifice.
The dignitaries further called for the people to draw inspiration from Irabot’s revolutionary spirit, urging unity and dedication to safeguarding Manipur’s cultural and political heritage. They emphasized that this anniversary is not just a commemoration but a time to renew the commitment to preserving the state’s future.
