Pony or horse owners of the state have been warned by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services not to let loose them from their respective sheds or compounds so as to avoid any unintended consequences to the public.
“ Letting loose of the livestock animals especially horses/ponies colts by the owners and straying on the streets is not only a penal offence liable to be prosecuted under the Indian Penal Code, 1973 but also under the provisions of the Cattle – Trespass Act, 1871”, a statement by the Director of the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Ng. Ibotombi Singh said.
The statement said that owners of horses and ponies who have no facilities or no proper facilities to take proper care of their animals are requested to avail the facilities to kept their horses, ponies provided by the Government of Manipur located at Marjing Pony Complex at Pangei, Imphal East, and Campus of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, Lamphelpat, Imphal West.
It added that the number of livestock specially horses and ponies along with their colts are letting loose by their owners and thereby loitering and straying on the roads of in and around Imphal City causing not only nuisance, Inconveniences to the public, traffic but also causes several motor, vehicle accidents leading to even losses of many human lives including horses, ponies.
