Poll related violence: MPP workers clashes BJP workers at Heirok Assembly constituency

Imphal, Jan 4: Poll related violence erupted in Heirok Assembly Constituency today after workers of Manipur Peoples’ Party’s intending candidate N Sovakiran disrupted a grand feast organised by workers of BJP’s intending candidate Th. Radheshyam.
According to report reaching here the fierce clashed occurred between the two groups at Ukhongshang area in Heirok assembly constituency at around 6 am today morning.
The MPP workers accompanied by security escort of Sovakiran, who is also the president of the oldest regional political party of Manipur vandalised four vehicles if the BJP workers by turning upside down besides firing rounds of gunshots in the air.
BJP workers reportedly organised a grand feast at the residence of one Radheshyam at Ukhangsang to discuss the election strategy of Th. Radheshyam.
The MPP workers disrupted the grand feast dictating that no such grand feast related to election can be organised at Ukhongsang area.
The report added that Sovakiran along with his escorts came along with the supporters.
Later at around 10 pm large number of BJP’s intending candidate’s supporters throng at the residence of Sovakiran at Ukhongsang. However, a strong team of police led by Thoubal district SP timely intervened the situation and prevented things from going worst.
Police team fired 2 / 3 rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the BJP supporters.
Talking to reporters, Th Radheshyam, the BJP’s intending candidates sought apology from Sovakiran terming the incident as unfortunate. He said that the kind of act at which 5 workers were brutally assaulted even by misusing the security escort is a direct insult to the democracy. He said that in democracy set up there should be room for conducting meeting and discussion among the voters.
Following the clashed a meeting was organised by BJP workers at Ukhongsang Makha Leikai. The meeting while condemning the incident demanded suspension of the escort party within 24 hours and also to boycott N. Sovakiran at Ukhongsang and heirok Assembly constituency.
On the other hand President of MPP Sovakiran said that the people of Ukhongsang had already adopted resolution to prohibit grand feast in relation to election.
