Political activist Erendro Leichombam, who had contested the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election but was defeated at Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency, is once more in the news after police came to arrest him on July 26 midnight at his Thangmeiband residence.
Erendro is presently staying at New Delhi on some personnel work and the police return back informing family to report at Porompat police station. The police team said nothing about the reason of the FIR but said that he has been charged under Section 124 A (Sedition) and Section 153 as well as Section 505 of the IPC.
Section 124 A of the IPC can punish that Whoever, by words, either spoken or written, or by signs, or by visible representation, or otherwise, brings or attempts to bring into hatred or contempt, or excites or attempts to excite disaffection towards, the Government established by law
Section 505 in The Indian Penal Code. (c) with intent to incite, or which is likely to incite, any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community, shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to 6[three years], or with fine, or with both.
And Section 153 in The Indian Penal Code states that,
“Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot—if rioting be committed—if not committed.—Whoever malignantly, or wantonly, by doing anything which is illegal, gives provocation to any person intending or knowing it to be likely that such provocation will cause the offence of rioting to be committed, shall, if the offence of rioting be committed in consequence of such provocation, be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both; and if the offence of rioting be not committed, with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both.’
Talking to Imphal Times Erendro said that he have no idea of why such an FIR is lodged against him,
