Police foil self-immolation attempt near Lok Bhavan

Police today foiled an attempted self-immolation by a youth in front of Lok Bhavan in Imphal, preventing a potential tragedy amid heightened public tension over recent violence in the state.
The individual has been identified as Sinam Appolo (32), a resident of Mayang Langjing. According to eyewitnesses, he attempted the extreme step around 1 pm, reportedly anguished over the killing of two siblings in a bomb blast at a residence in Tronglaobi Maning Leikai in the early hours of April 7.
Report said that Appolo poured kerosene over himself in an apparent attempt to set himself on fire. Security personnel stationed at the site acted promptly, restraining him before he could carry out the act. During the intervention, he reportedly appealed to authorities not to stop him.
A team of City Police later arrived at the scene and took him into custody for further questioning. No injuries were reported.
Preliminary reports suggest that the attempt was driven by distress and anger over the recent incident in Tronglaobi, which claimed innocent lives. The episode reflects the growing public anguish and frustration over the continuing violence in Manipur.
