Jiribam, Aug. 20:

Customers of the Punjab National Bank  (PNB), Jiribam Branch have faced hardship due to a large gathering of customers in the bank for the transaction of money to the bank.
The queue of customers in front of the bank is so long that if one needs to withdraw money then they have to stand in the queue from early morning.
As there is only one nationalized bank in the district, the people urged the authority concerned to open a new branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) in the district as they are facing hardships due to insufficient bank and unserviceable PNB ATM booths.
“As there is no proper financial institution in Jiribam, the district is deprived of every facility in terms of money transactions. People from neighboring state Assam, who are from Jirighat, Cachar and from other districts of the state like Tamenglong, Churachandpur and Pherzwal are also dependent on the only Punjab National Bank in the district. Amidst the crucial days of COVID-19, the customers have to take risks among the crowd by standing in a long queue for almost five to six hours, despite standing in a long queue sometimes they have to return home with empty hands due to unable to withdraw money in the stipulated banking timing”  Customer of PNB, Jiribam branch standing on the queue said.
