With a large number of Imphal-bound oil tankers remaining stranded following the landslides at Pesama, the fuel stock in the state would last only for few days as reported in an official Stock Report published today. In addition to this the condition of Barak bridge on NH- 37 faces the possibility of a total cut off of the state from India. The result might be serious for the state of Manipur as there is a very real possibility of the public facing shortage of fuel as well as other essential commodities.
Official reports today confirmed that there is only 6 days petrol stock left at Indian Oil Corporation’s Imphal Depot, Chingmeirong. According to IOC the state requires 127 KL of petrol per day as the present stock is only 740KL Petrol (Motor Spirit) stock at Imphal Depot, Chingmeirong, which would last for 6 days, the depot is likely to be dry in the next 6 days with no possibilities of ferrying the fuel as both the highways have been cut off.
The depot still has a stock of 3920 KL Diesel (High Speed Diesel) which could last for around 16 days only while the stock of Kerosene (2049 KL) would last only for 20 days.
Till today around 263.421 MT stock of LPG at Sekmai bottling plant would run only for 3 days.
Due to the landslide the NH-2 has remained cut off for all kinds of traffic at Pesama, about 10 Km from Kohima in Nagaland towards Mao Gate since Aug 19 afternoon.
Restoration works is going on in full swing, however progress is hampered due to incessant rain. According to BRTF authority, the road will take minimum one week’s time to open for light vehicles and around 20 days for heavy vehicles.
The IOC report also mentioned that the emergency fuel stock at Moreh depot is having low petrol and diesel. The border town remains cut off from Imphal since Aug 01 due to occurrence of landslides on the NH-102 in at least 20 different locations. Even though the highway is open to light vehicles since Aug 06; heavy vehicles are not allowed to ply due to several cracks developed in many portions of the highway.
