Imphal Sept 30: Various organizations today paid befitting tribute to Lamyanba Hijam Irabot at various places across the state on his 118th Birth Anniversary.
The day was marked by colorful march past, song competition, recitation, cultural events, cleaning of localities and other activities.
The Hijam Irabot Memorial Charitable Trust observed the day at Pishumthong Oinam Lekai, the birthplace of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot. Students, leaders of civil society organizations paid floral tribute at the statue of Hijam Irabot. It was followed by march past of various contingents. Remaining part of the function was held at the Multipurpose Hall of Manipur College.
The function was attended by Lok Sabha MP Th. Meinya, H. Dilipkumar, President of Hijam Irabot Memorial Charitable Trust, Y. Joykumar, Retd DGP, Ng. Nongyai former member of Manipur Human rights commission and N. Tomba, executive editor of Pandam as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking during the occasion Lok Sabha MP Th Meinya appealed to the students of the state to reconsider while doing anything. In order to make a better Manipur we need to follow the footprints of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot.
The day was also observed at THAU Ground Thangmeiband by Irabot Research and Commemoration Committee (IRCC) jointly with All Manipur Intellectual Forum (AMIF) and Students’ League Manipur. Various contingents gave salute to the portrait of Lamyanba Irabot to mark the day.
The Irabot celebration committee, Manipur observed the day Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen at the palace compound. A large number of students, women and cultural troupes participated in the march past.
