Despite the substantial deployment of Central Security Forces at the foothills of Phayeng Kangchup, tranquility remains elusive in the area, stated Konthoujam Mombi, Secretary of Chingleima Nupi Lup, affiliated with Poirei Leiramrol Apunba Nupi Lup, during a press conference in Phayeng today.
Mombi articulated that a significant contingent of central security personnel has been stationed in Phayeng, Kangchup, Singda, Kadangband, and Tairenpokpi. Nevertheless, agricultural activities have come to a standstill despite the security forces’ presence. The local populace harbors apprehensions about the presence of the Central Security Forces, which has exacerbated their fears rather than assuaging them.
Contrary to the assertions by the State and Central Government about the restoration of peace in the region, residents have endured sleepless nights since the violence erupted on May 3, 2023. Mombi questioned the impartiality of the Central Forces, suggesting their deployment has not contributed to the area’s stability.
Mombi urged the state government to replace the Central Forces with State Forces to expedite the restoration of peace.
