Manipur Dog Lovers Club (MDLC) rescued a female puppy around one month old that was found abandoned at Moirangkhom Lokloubung Makhong, Imphal East on Saturday at 3:30 pm. Both the hind limbs of the puppy are paralysed, and it is under treatment.
“Tonika Pangambam, a resident of Moirangkhom, informed MDLC about the dog struggling to walk on the roadside at around 3:00 pm. Our team rushed to the spot and were deeply shocked to see the little dog being abandoned in such a pathetic situation. The hind limbs of the local breed dog were severely wounded,” general secretary, MDLC said.
The puppy’s hind limbs are dysfunctional, and it is using its fore limbs to drag its body forward. “The puppy is still very small, and we cannot confirm as of now whether the dog was borne disfigured or it met with an accident. X-rays won’t tell us much about it. We have to wait till the dog grows up to diagnose the condition,” Dr. Rupachandra Singh, veterinary doctor at Claws and Paws, Keishampat. The puppy will be kept in intensive care for the next seven days.
A temporary shelter for the dog has been arranged at Bijaya’s Kennel Wangkhei. It will be shifted to shelter of People for Animals on Sunday.
“We want to urge owners to stop such cruelty towards animal. It is only a baby and the treatment done to it is unimaginable. Dogs are closest to humans and they should be treated like humans,” MDLC team said.
