Owner threatens driver to bring back hijacked vehicle

Driver of Cruiser passenger vehicle plying along Imphal Jiri road who was recently rescued from the hand of the kidnappers after paying ransom money was allegedly threaten by the owner of the vehicle asking him to bring back the vehicle.In a press conference held today at Manipur Press Club, brother of the driver, Heigrujam Rojitkumar said that his brother H. Dhanabir was kidnapped along with the passenger vehicle bearing registration number AS-11-BC 2491 on March 25 of this year by suspected Kuki militants while returning from Jiribam. The said kuki militant demanded to pay rupees 50 laks to the owner of the vehicle identified as Taorem Manglemchandra of Benagandhi Part 2 of Cachar district. The matter was tried to negotiate through the leaders of the Kuki Women Union and finally agreed to released the driver after paying rupees 12 lakh. The family member of the driver than took rupees 11 lakhs on April 5 and paid it to the Kuki Militant. On the next day, the driver H. Dhanabir was released unharmed however, the vehicle was detained as they demanded more money for that. However, on September 3 a person identified to have been working under one Ibotombi of PREPAK came and handed over a note which demanded payment of rupees 6 lakhs or bringing back of the hijacked vehicle. The said person alleged  that they paid only  rupees 5 lakh instead of rupees 11 lakh so the vehicle has not been released.H. Rojitkumar further said that his brother is presently undergoing treatment as he is suffering from depression since that incident. He said such threats may worsen his condition and urged the concern authority to look into the matter.
