Over 2,400 individuals verified in Manipur ILP drive

As part of an intensified campaign to detect foreign nationals and non-locals without valid documentation, the Manipur Police has verified the credentials of 2,412 individuals in a special Inner Line Permit (ILP) drive conducted across Senapati district.
According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, 170 persons were found travelling without the mandatory ILP passes, while 134 others were in possession of expired permits. All the defaulters were escorted to the Mao Gate ILP counter, where they were required to obtain valid permits before being allowed to continue their journey.
The verification drive, which commenced last week, was carried out under the direct supervision of the Senapati District Police Task Force. It covered key transit points including National Highway-2, Maram-Peren Road, Tadubi-Tolloi Road, and other inter-village routes falling under various police station jurisdictions.
While no illegal immigrants have been detected during the operation so far, police authorities have reiterated that thorough checks are ongoing at all entry points to the state. Officials also indicated that the special drive will be further intensified in the coming days to ensure strict compliance with ILP regulations.
The Inner Line Permit is a mandatory travel document introduced under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873. It is required by non-residents to enter Manipur and other select northeastern states, serving as a safeguard to protect the rights and identity of indigenous communities.
