Old Cachar road blockade lifted

The blockade imposed on the Old Cachar Road since June 19 was lifted today following an agreement reached between government authorities and representatives of Joujangtek Village in Noney district.

The agreement was signed after discussions on the blockade, which was called by Joujangtek Villagers.

According to the Memorandum of Agreement signed today, security forces have assured the safety and protection of farmers from Joujangtek Village during farming and other related activities. The authorities also agreed to ensure that the movement and supply of essential commodities to the village would not be obstructed by any party.

As part of the agreement, village representatives agreed to immediately lift the blockade on the Old Cachar Road.

The memorandum further stated that the agreement would become null and void if any future attack, threat or intimidation targeting the village or its residents occurs.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the administration by Superintendent of Police, Noney, Divya Rajput, Officer-in-Charge of Khoupum Police Station Md. Salauddin, and Sub-Divisional Officer, Longmai, Ziaur Rahman.

Representing Joujangtek Village were village chief Henkhopad Haokip, village secretary Thongmang Haokip and Youth Club president L. Robert.
