Imphal, Sept. 11: Assam Rifles personnel were fired upon on Thursday when a team were on their way to organize medical camps at Pongkhungri and Avangkhu to be held on September 11. According to AR sources, a medical team along with other personnel were sent to the area. While on their way, cadres of the NSCN (K) fired on the AR team. However, the firing was ineffective and no one was injured, sources added. The official said that the AR would go ahead with the medical camp as planned in the two villages.
Meanwhile, A fierce gunfight took place between troops of 46 Assam Rifles and suspected cadres of the NSCN-K in between Akhegwon village and Avangaung Village along the Indo-Myanmar Border near border pillar No. 133 and 134 at Mon district in Nagaland at around 3 pm yesterday evening. Report reaching here said that there was no casualty at both side. Following the encounter, AR troop reinforced and conducted mass search operation in the area till today afternoon. There is no report of any arrest.
