NSCN/GPRN calls for Naga unity, reconciliation; Reaffirms sovereignty struggle

Hebron/Ukhrul, October 8:
The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN/GPRN) has called for greater Naga unity and reconciliation, while reaffirming its stated commitment to the Naga national struggle for sovereignty and what it describes as the historical and political rights of the Naga people.

In a statement titled “Clarion Call” issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity, the NSCN/GPRN said the Naga movement had continued for more than seven decades with the support and cooperation of the Naga people.

The organisation asserted that Nagas constitute one people with a shared identity and destiny despite geographical and political divisions, declaring that there is “neither Eastern Nagalim nor Western Nagalim; there is only Nagalim.”

It alleged that Naga ancestral territories were divided between India and Myanmar in 1953 by external forces and maintained that overcoming such divisions remains central to its vision of Naga unity.

Calling reconciliation essential to the future of the Naga people, the NSCN/GPRN urged Naga groups and communities to overcome differences and work towards a common political understanding. It also criticised forces it alleged were opposed to Naga unity and a political settlement based on historical and political rights.

Addressing the younger generation, the organisation said history should serve as a guide rather than become a constraint, urging the Naga people to learn from past mistakes and move forward with renewed determination.

The NSCN/GPRN reiterated that it seeks peace but said such peace should not involve surrendering its political principles, describing its position as “peace in freedom.”

The statement concluded with an appeal for Nagas across geographical boundaries to unite as “one family, one people, and one nation.”
