Noney Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sharath Chandra Arroju, IAS, today launched the Bal VivahMukht Bharat(Child Marriage Free Bharat) campaign at Noney DC conference hall in Noney District Headquarter in connection with the campaign against child marriage across the nation.
The event was organised by District Administration, Noney and District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Noney in collaboration with One Stop Centre, Noney.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Noney DC Dr. Sharath Chandra Arroju stated that under age marriage had an adverse effect on the girls’ child health adding that it also disturb the girl’s educational career and employment opportunities.
“If a marriage takes place with the age less than 18 years for the girls’ child and less than 21 years for boys, such marriages are Child Marriage or Under Age Marriage”, asserted the DC saying that it is the collective responsibility of everyone to stop and prevent such unlawful marriage in every society. He also urged the gathering to inform or contact the authority concerned or enforcement agencies if such marriages are found and liable for taking proper legal action.
He further appealed to the DCPO/ DCPU and other line Departments dealing with the child marriage cases to work unitedly and whole heartedly and act promptly for the better future of every girl child in the district.
A pledge on protection of child marriage was also taken by everyone present at the programme during the function.
Namsadai Peter Kamei, MPS, Superintendent of Police, Noney, Stiff Khapudang, MCS, ADM Noney and PalmeiKakhuran, Protection Officer, DCPU Noney also attended the function as guest of honour, functional president and resources person respectively.
