The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Lamphelpat has no vaccines to treat Swine Flu (H1N1), according to a staff nurse.
A team of Imphal Times visited casualty ward of the Centre-run hospital on Wednesday evening. Surprisingly, at the entrance of the ward a notice posted that reads as ‘No vaccines, No masks’.
The same notice was also posted in some other places inside the casualty building including the changing room of doctors and nurses.
When enquire about the meaning of the notice, a staff nurse told Imphal Times that lots of people came to procure medicines and masks after the outbreak of Swine Flu. The vaccines and mask were run out of stock; even hospital staffs get protective mask from outside.
The message conveys a lot about the preparedness of the hospital to fight the H1N1 virus, an auto driver told.
“A patient told us that casualty is the first place where patient of any kind emergency in nature are admitted. What is the option if a swine flu suspected patient is admitted at the ward?” he asked.
Further, he added that besides being a regional institution, is RIMS going to refer such patient to Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI)? Does that mean that RIMS does not care for swine flu treatment?
