MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand today said that the newly constructed temporary market shed at Khwairambandh Keithel here in the heart of Imphal city is for the street vendors.
Talking to media persons while inspecting the market shed at Khwairamband Keithel and the newly constructed market shed at Lamphel today morning, MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand said that no plot or license or stall has been allotted to any of the individuals.
“The temporary market shed here in the heart of Imphal is constructed for the street vendors. Any street vendors can sell their vegetable at the market shed on first come first basis”, Khemchand said adding that no area or space is reserved for any individuals.
The Minister also appealed vested interested people playing politics to the street vendors who are feeding their family from their day today sales.
“Our government under the supervision of the Chief Minister along with the officials of the Imphal Municipal Corporation and the district Superintendent of police, Traffic police authority have been verifying the reality that is happening in the name of street vendors”, Khemchand said and added that some individual are playing politics by submitting the number of street vendors to over 6000 (six thousands when the actual number of street vendors who are actually selling vegetables and other items do not cross 1400 (One thousand four hundred). He said that any street vendor can use the space on first cum first basis and when the vendor complete its sale the space can be replace by some other street vendors.
The MAHUD Minister also appealed the people to make the city clean and requested to cooperate with the government.
He warns those playing politics with the real street vendors and reminded that there is a rule of law and every citizen should follow it.
