The National Manipuri Progressive Front (NMPF) and the Joint Action Committee Against Language & Cultural Aggression (JACALCA) today submitted a joint memorandum through the office of the District Commissioner of Cachar, Aayush Garg, IAS, addressed to the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu. The primary focus of the memorandum is the severe public suffering caused by the year-long disruption of the Silchar-Imphal flight service. The situation forces commuters to undertake a two-day journey via Agartala or Guwahati, replacing a simple 20-minute flight.
This disruption is particularly challenging due to the ongoing Manipur turmoil since May 2023, which has rendered the connecting road unsafe for passenger buses. The lack of safe and efficient transport options is causing significant hardship for residents and traders across Manipur and South Assam, prompting the organizations to appeal directly to the Union Minister for immediate action to restore the vital flight connectivity.
The delegation that submitted the memorandum included Dr. Maimom Shantikumar (Working President, NMPF Cachar), I S Thingom (President, NMPF), Herojit Nongmaithem (General Secretary, NMPF), Nirmal Kumar Das (President, JACALCA), Neharul Ahmed (General Secretary, JACALCA), and Halif Choudhary (Secretary, JACALCA).
