Ninety nine more weapons surrendered

A total of 99 weapons have been surrendered across the hill and valley districts of Manipur between February 27 and March 1, 2025, following coordinated efforts by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, civil administration, and other security agencies.
A statement by PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Manipur, Nagaland, and Southern Arunachal Pradesh said that in Phaitol, Tamenglong district, persistent negotiations led to the surrender of 17 locally made single-barrel rifles, nine improvised mortars (pompi), grenades, ammunition, and other war-like stores. In Saikul, Kangpokpi district, engagements by the Assam Rifles in coordination with other stakeholders resulted in the surrender of seven 12-bore pump-action rifles and 15 improvised mortars.
Similarly, in Sagolmang, Imphal East district, security forces facilitated the surrender of five 12-bore bolt-action rifles, one lathode gun, and 11 improvised mortars. Additionally, on February 27, ten weapons were surrendered in the hill areas, including one 7.62 mm Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), one .303 rifle, four single-bore barrel rifles, two pistols, and two improvised mortars. The following day, February 28, saw the surrender of 14 weapons in Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts, comprising one sniper rifle, one pistol, five improvised mortars, two INSAS rifles, one carbine machine gun (CMG), one country-made pistol, one 51 mm mortar, three IEDs, ammunition, and other war-like stores.
Further engagements by the Indian Army in Moirangpurel and Itham areas resulted in the surrender of one Sten machine carbine, three 12-bore single-barrel rifles, and one .303 rifle. In Churachandpur district’s Siden area, security forces facilitated the surrender of five weapons, including one .303 rifle, one 7.62 mm rifle, one 12-bore rifle, one single-barrel rifle, and one improvised mortar, along with an IED, ammunition, and war-like stores.
Meanwhile, intelligence-based joint operations in the Samukom area of Tengnoupal district led to the recovery of six weapons, including one 12-bore single-barrel rifle, one muzzle-loaded rifle, two 9mm pistols, two improvised mortars, 10 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), ammunition, and other war-like stores.
All recovered arms and ammunition have been handed over to the Manipur Police. Security forces, including the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, continue their commitment to fostering peace, security, and development in the region through joint operations and sustained engagements with relevant stakeholders.
