Imphal, Jan 25:

North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has expressed its support to the Farmers’ Tractor Parade in Delhi on the occasion of Republic Day.
A statement by NEIS said that the Tractor Parade is part of the ongoing farmers’ movement against the three farm laws which were passed by the BJP government in Parliament last year. Though the government has been unwilling to withdraw these laws, it has not just been forced to listen to the farmers’ demands, but allow the farmers to hold the tractor parade despite its reservations. The ongoing movement has proven that the people’s movements cannot be easily curbed.
The Republic Day Parade of the farmers which has received huge support from people across the country highlights that it is the people who are supreme in any democratic republic and any law which affects them should be only passed after their consent. The farmers’ movement expresses the aspirations of the small-marginal farmers in the entire country and there is a need to take the movement ahead on the demands of small-marginal farmers and agricultural workers who form the majority in rural areas. As such, the Farmers’ Parade is a historic event in the history of India. NEFIS demands immediate repeal of the farm laws and conveys its solidarity with the farmers’ movement.
