Need to expand Health Services to Rural Population: Governor

Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey has said that health services should be expanded so that it can easily reach the rural population in the State. There is also a need to develop the infrastructure of medical services. Governor was speaking at the 39th All Manipur Medical Conference (AMAMECON), 2023 held today at the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Hall at Lamphelpat in Imphal, today. The two days conference is being organised by IMA, Manipur State Branch.
Speaking as Chief Guest, Governor said, the work being done by our doctors and medical workers in the state is commendable. Doctors are providing health services especially to those who cannot afford more expensive private hospitals. She said, government alone cannot do the entire work of health care. Keeping in view the medical demand, volunteers and organizations should be motivated to establish hospitals and other health care centres.
Appreciating the efforts of IMA, Anusuiya Uikey said, the association is carrying out activities to raise health awareness. The association contributes to the implementation of national health programs such as vaccination, NCDs etc. The Association is an important forum for doctors in the public and private sectors to exchange ideas, expertise and protect their rights and promote their well-being. Governor appealed to the association to organize free health camps as many as possible in the remote areas of the state where the availability of medical facilities is less.
Referring to the theme of the conference, “Psycho-Social Stability: Need of the Hour”, Governor said, psycho-social can also mean the influence of social factors on a person’s mind or behaviour.
Psycho-social health focuses on four aspects of life: mental, emotional, social and spiritual. Stressing the need to motivate children, Governor said, parents should never try to pressurize their children as it may lead to serious health issues like mental problem. Emphasizing the need to reach out to the internally displaced people in the relief camps in different district of the State, Governor said, around 60,000 people of Manipur have been affected by the incidents that broke out since May 3 and they have been taking shelter in relief camps with a feeling of uncertainty and various types of mental stress. Therefore, doctors should reach out to their needs and help them. Governor urged all stakeholders to contribute in the restoration of peace and harmony in the State.
