Imphal, Nov 1:

The North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) has appealed to all countries to agree and be resolute to mitigate climate change and not negotiate/debate for an extended date for zero-emission under one excuse or the other for it is the innocent majority, irrespective of colour, race, faith, ethnicity, gender, age, social and economic status who will have to pay the price for no fault of their own.
“Let us not argue that one has not comparatively polluted as other countries and so “we” should be allowed to pollute more. Think of planet earth; think of innocent citizens; think of others of creation. Planet earth and all its inhabitants must survive now and forever and environment and pollution has no national boundaries” a statement by the NEDF said.
The statement said that almost every concerned person of world citizenship are waiting in eagerness for a positive outcome from the ongoing 26th Session of the Convention of Parties on Climate Change (COP26) meeting at Glasgow, Scotland, October 31 – November 2, 2021.
The selection of Glasgow by the U. K. Government is most apt and appropriate since Scotland is overwhelmed with wind farms which should be an example for other countries, particularly on hilltops, mountain tops and sandy beaches to generate alternative energy from wind energy instead of continuing and perpetuating the so called conventional energy including nuclear energy through the extractive industries of mining coal, oil, gas, radioactive minerals like uranium, thorium, plutonium, construction of dams for hydel projects and transfer of plants/vegetation /trees from one climatic zone to another which climate is hostile to the particular vegetation like oil palm, rubber, coffee, eucalyptus, teak and others, thereby enhancing desertification coupled with global warming brought about by carbon emission, methane and so on.
Wars are fought, battles and domestic violent strife under one guise or the other are no more phenomena but regular and common engagement almost everywhere and the weapons barons are happy to meet the demands whether covertly or overtly while threats to resort to nuclear weapons somehow, stops the decimation of planet earth in a split second like what happened to Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6th and 9th August, 1945. And in Scotland, we believe, there are some eight nuclear warheads (or more ?)
All these contribute to global warming as subscribed by air, water and soil pollution, loss of biodiversity both on land and sea/ocean and lead to climate change thereby hitting first and foremost, small and marginal farmers, country dwellers, indigenous communities, the homeless as well, others.
“We look forward to positive and constructive outcome of COP26”, the statement added.
