Natl Press Day observed; CM assures to fill Commissioner of RTI

Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi today assured to fill the vacant post of Commissioner for Right to Information of the state very soon.This was stated by the Chief Minister today at the occasion of National Press day and distribution of Manipur State Journalist awards 2014, held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal. He further said that Manipur has no commissioner for Right to Information and it is disappointing that the post has been vacant for a long time. The Chief Minister blamed the inability to identify opposition leader of the state Assembly as a reason for the delay in filling the post. He said that a committee needs to be formed to select the post of commissioner that should be led by CM, Cabinet Minister and opposition leader however the state assembly is not able to identify the opposition leader of the state. He further assured that he will try his best to fill the empty post as soon as possible.The function was organised by Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of Manipur. On the occasion state journalist award were also distributed. Valley Rose of Aja daily paper received the best editor award infavour of her husband Ashiyo Hungyo, Ksh. Meghajit of Naharolgi Thoudang for Health and Hygiene reporting, Sapam Aruna of Sangai Express daily newspaper for Women and Children reporting, Rameshwar Puyam of Huiyen Landpao daily newspaper for Parliamentary reporting, Laishram Bijoy of Huiyen Lanpao daily newspaper for rural reporting, Meisnam Karnajit of Huiyen Lanpao for science and technology reporting, R.K. Manisana of Poknapham daily newspaper for sports reporting and Longjam Arish Rona of People’s chronicle daily newspaper for art and culture reporting. A cash award of rupees 25,000/- along with citations were confered to the award winner journalists.Chief Guest, Okram Ibobi appreciated all the journalists of the state for their contribution toward the society. Media plays a major role in the state to bring transparency between the government and the people. He appealed the journalists fraternity to be sincere and served the nation with heart and soul.
