The District Administration of Pherzawl, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office and the District Programme Officer (ICDS), today observed National Girl Child Day at the Pherzawl Public Ground, reaffirming its commitment to the protection, education and empowerment of girls.
The programme was organised under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative and featured an awareness and sensitisation session along with a Signature Campaign to promote gender equality and social responsibility. As part of the event, certificates, school bags and cash prizes were awarded to 14 meritorious girls, while baby packs were distributed to fully immunised baby girls. Awards were also presented to participants of BBBP sports tournaments and BBBP icons. Sanitary pads were distributed to adolescent girls to encourage menstrual health and hygiene awareness.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching emphasised the importance of equal opportunities for girls, highlighting education as a key tool for empowerment. She encouraged parents and the community to support girls’ education, noting that education enables women to become leaders and role models in society.
A National Girl Child Day Pledge was administered during the programme, with participants reaffirming their resolve to create a safer, more inclusive and equitable future for every girl.
The observance highlighted the district’s continued efforts towards social empowerment and community resilience.

The district administration celebrated National Girl Child Day 2026 at the DC’s Conference Hall, Mini-secretariat, today.
In a symbolic gesture, staff members and participants collectively took a pledge to promote awareness about the rights, education, health, and welfare of girls.
Speaking on the occasion, Dharun Kumar S, Deputy Commissioner of the district, said that the observance of National Girl Child Day was a moment of collective commitment to uphold the dignity, empowerment, and socio-economic development of women. He noted that the district has consistently performed well in competitive examinations, with women emerging as more educated and accomplished than in earlier years. “We must ensure equal opportunities and treatment for women, extending to education, employment, and social participation,” he added.
The Deputy Commissioner alsoemphasized that women should be able to pursue their aspirations freely, choosing what they wish to do, how they wish to do it, and where they wish to do it, within a safe and supportive environment.
To mark the day, meritorious girl students, based on their academic performance in Class X and XII examinations, and subject toppers in science, commerce, arts, and humanities, were felicitated with certificates and gifts from the District Administration. Nine girls from the MBBS Final Year (2022 batch) and five newly admitted MBBS students, including three IDPs, were also felicitated.
