Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah observed across Manipur

District administrations across Manipur on Wednesday launched the observance of Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah under the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan”, as part of a nationwide campaign against substance abuse.

In Imphal East, the District Administration announced a series of activities from June 17 to 26, including mass pledge drives, registration of Nasha Mukti Mitr volunteers, signature campaigns, community awareness programmes, and health and yoga sessions at the district’s De-addiction Centre. ASHA and Anganwadi workers will also conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns in vulnerable areas.

In Kakching district, the campaign was launched at PR English School through a programme organised by the District Administration and District Social Welfare Office. Around 250 students, teachers and staff participated in awareness sessions, a pledge-taking ceremony and a poster campaign. Tennison, Counsellor of Phidam Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), attended as the resource person and spoke on the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of healthy lifestyles.

The nationwide observance was virtually inaugurated by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar, who launched a Personal Dashboard for Nasha Mukti Mitra volunteers and unveiled a short film on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) aimed at strengthening citizen participation in the anti-drug movement.

The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment is observing Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah across the country from June 17 to 26 in the run-up to the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26. The campaign brings together central and state agencies, district administrations, educational institutions and community organisations to promote awareness and encourage a drug-free society.

As part of the initiative, yoga, meditation and wellness programmes will also be organised on International Day of Yoga on June 21 under the message, “Yoga for Wellness, Say No to Drugs.”
