Imphal, June 18:

Amidst the ongoing conflict in Manipur that has engulfed the region for over 45 days, the National Unity Government (NUG) of Myanmar, the opposition government in exile, has issued a plea to its refugees residing in India, urging them to abstain from any actions that could undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of India. As the Indian government grapples with efforts to quell the turmoil in Manipur, the NUG’s call emphasizes the importance of maintaining a peaceful coexistence and respecting the sovereignty of the host nation
In a public announcement made on June 15 by the NUG’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, several guidelines were outlined for the refugees residing in India. These guidelines emphasized the need for caution and advised against unnecessary involvement in political and administrative affairs, such as political party election campaigns and ethnic conflicts in the state where they have sought refuge.
The announcement also urged the refugees not to engage in illegal trafficking of drugs and wildlife, emphasizing the importance of living in harmony with host communities and adhering to the religious and social norms prevalent in the wards or villages where they are residing.
Furthermore, the NUG’s statement encouraged its citizens taking refuge in India to establish contact, provide information, and seek guidance from the nearest Myanmar Parliamentarians and responsible individuals from social organizations in the event of encountering social problems and difficulties. It also emphasized the importance of communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when necessary.
The NUG’s call to its refugees in India reflects a recognition of the significance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the host country. By urging its citizens to avoid involvement in political activities and maintain a harmonious coexistence with local communities, the NUG aims to foster a positive relationship between the refugees and India.
The conflict in Manipur has been a cause for concern, and the NUG’s plea to its citizens in India serves as a reminder that their actions should not jeopardize the strong ties between the two nations. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the refugees will respond to this call and contribute to the peaceful coexistence in their host country while advocating for their cause.
