MUTSU backs TYCM demand to open Tribal Girls’ Hostel

The Manipur University Tribal Students’ Union (MUTSU) has supported the demand raised by the Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM) for the immediate functioning of the Tribal Girls’ Hostel at Old Lambulane, Imphal, to ease the difficulties faced by tribal girl students.
In a statement issued by Information and Publicity Secretary Gaisuanglung Gonmei, MUTSU stated that the hostel has not been made operational even after paramilitary forces vacated the premises on September 20, 2025. The delay has caused hardships for tribal girl students from remote areas who rely on hostel facilities to pursue their education in Imphal.
The statement noted that many students are currently staying in rented accommodations, placing financial strain on their families.
MUTSU also expressed support for the ultimatum extended by TYCM till March 10, 2026 and conveyed its readiness to join any democratic agitation initiated by the council. The union urged the authorities to fulfil the demand within the stipulated period.
