Dimapur/Ukhrul, Marrch 21:
Qr. Avakharar, Thuingaleng Muivah, General Secretary and Chief Political Negotiator of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN/GPRN), delivered a powerful thanksgiving speech on the occasion of the reaffirmation and declaration of the NSCN/GPRN’s collective leadership. Expressing deep gratitude to God and the Naga people, Muivah reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the sovereignty and freedom of Nagalim.
Muivah began by acknowledging the divine providence that has shaped the history of the Naga nation. Quoting from the scriptures, he emphasized that leadership and sovereignty are determined by God’s will, stating, “Exaltation comes neither from the east nor the west, but from God alone.” He extended his gratitude to the NSCN/GPRN members for reaffirming their faith in the collective leadership and recognized the sacrifices made by past leaders who laid the foundation for the Naga independence movement.
Reflecting on the historical journey of Nagalim, Muivah honored the visionary leaders who steered the movement with determination. He recalled the contributions of A.Z. Phizo, Imkongmeren, Isak Chishi Swu, and Khadao Yanthan, asserting that their sacrifices continue to inspire the Naga people in their pursuit of self-determination. Muivah declared that the right to self-rule is the “sovereign birthright” of the Naga people, one that is “non-negotiable.”
He paid tribute to Naga freedom fighters, including fearless generals and soldiers who dedicated their lives to the cause. He specifically mentioned leaders like Thinoselie M. Keyho and Capt. Phungtha, who made the first bold moves in the struggle. Muivah also acknowledged the role of civil societies and international supporters who have stood by the Naga movement, reiterating that their contributions would be repaid “in terms of victory.”
Addressing the ongoing peace negotiations with the Government of India, Muivah reaffirmed that Nagalim’s unique history and sovereignty were officially recognized in the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of 2002 and the Framework Agreement of 2015. He assured the Naga people that any final settlement must honor these agreements in letter and spirit. He categorically stated that Nagalim’s national flag, national constitution, and sovereign territory are integral and non-negotiable aspects of any political resolution.
Muivah also acknowledged the setbacks and disappointments that the movement has endured but remained steadfast in his belief that divine intervention will guide the Nagas to victory. He cited the biblical verse, “For the vision is yet for an appointed time… though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come.” Urging the Naga people to stand firm in faith and unity, he expressed confidence that the struggle will culminate in a just and honorable resolution.
Concluding his speech, Muivah reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to the cause, emphasizing that “God’s sovereignty overrules all human thinking, plans, and history.” He urged the Naga people to trust in divine providence and remain resolute in their pursuit of freedom. With the words “Kuknalim”—a call for Naga victory—he ended his address, leaving a powerful message of hope and determination for Nagalim’s future.
