The written test for recruitment of Assistant Registrar post in Manipur University has been cancelled after a group of DESAM (Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur) volunteers forcefully enter inside the examination hall and despoiled answer papers today.
According to a source from DESAM, the written test had been disrupted by volunteers of the student body in protest against the improper recruitment of some important post by the present Vice Chancellor of the varsity, Prof H Nandakumar Sharma.
Apart from showing favoritism to his relatives and close friends, Nandakumar Sharma had made various fraudulent recruitment under his administration, DESAM alleged. While demanding to clarify on improper recruits to various posts, DESAM had sent memorandum to Prime Minister and HRD Ministry. It also imposed ban on further recruitment in the university till a clarification is made from the side of the concerned authority regarding improper recruitment, said the source, who is also an executive member of DESAM.
The DESAM member said that above 50 volunteers of the student body entered inside the examination hall today at around 11.15 AM and snatched away answer papers from the candidates. They then tore and threw away the papers.
In continuation of its advertisement for the recruitment of 4 (four) Assistant Registrar (1 Unreserved, 1 OBC, 1 SC and 1PWD) posts, the varsity conducted the test at Social Science Block today morning 11 AM.
A total number of 596 applicants were shortlisted in four categories viz Unreserved 214, OBC 280, SC 87 and Physically Handicapped 15 for the Assistant Registrar posts.
Meanwhile, the University authority has indefinitely postponed the written examination after the incident.
