Imphal, Mar 25:

The Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, has appointed Prof T Tirupati Rao, former vice-chancellor of Osmania University, as the new Chancellor of Manipur University.

The appointment order was made available on March 24. However, until a new Vice-Chancellor has been appointed Prof. S Sanatombi will continue to serve as the Vice-Chancellor in charge of the Manipur University.

A source said former VC Pandey’s obstruction in connection with his case by appealing to Delhi High Court is delaying the appointment of a regular VC.

“The President of India in his capacity as the Visitor of Manipur University under the powers conferred under statute 1 of the Manipur University Act, 2005, is pleased to appoint Prof Rao as the new Chancellor of Manipur University,” stated Under Secretary to the Government of India, Vijay Kumar.

Prof Rao has been appointed for a term of five years.
