MSRLM inaugurates two-day rural roots market at Khangabok

The Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM), Thoubal CD Block, in collaboration with the Self-Help Groups’ Federation of Yainubi Cluster Level Federation, inaugurated a two-day exhibition-cum-sale event titled “Rural Roots Market” at Khangabok New Market in Thoubal district today.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Khangabok AC MLA Okram Surjakumar as the Chief Guest. Thangjam Rediya Devi, President of Yainubi Cluster Level Federation, Thoubal CD Block, attended as the President of the function, while MSRLM District Mission Director and Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal, Hannah Kamei (IAS), was present as the Guest of Honour. MLA Surjakumar formally inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon, after which the dignitaries inspected the various stalls set up at the venue.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Okram Surjakumar noted that people have been facing various hardships since the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the initiative of the Self-Help Groups to produce and market local goods has been instrumental in easing many of these challenges and highlighted the importance of supporting such grassroots initiatives for community resilience.
MSRLM officials said the Rural Roots Market has been designed to provide a platform for SHGs to showcase and sell their products. They expressed confidence that empowering these groups will not only strengthen the local economy but also play a significant role in the state’s overall development.
On the second day, the Rural Roots Market featured stalls selling fresh vegetables, homemade pickles, and other products prepared by the SHGs. The closing function was attended by Thoubal ADM Aribam Amarjit Sharma, Child Protection Officer Thoubal Salam Robindro, DFO Thoubal Dr. Leishangthem Jeeceelee, officials of MSRLM, and various other district-level officers.
