The Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) invites online applications for “Scratches and Glitches: Film, Video and Digital Preservation Workshop”, a two-day programme scheduled on 6th and 7th April 2026. Conceived as an introduction to both the theory and practice of preserving film heritage, the workshop addresses the growing need to safeguard moving images as vital repositories of cultural memory.
Structured to move from analogue to digital domains, the workshop will combine lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, enabling participants to engage with real-world archival situations. It will cover essential aspects such as understanding the lifecycle of film materials, identifying preservation challenges across formats, and developing basic strategies for the conservation and management of film, video, and digital collections.
The workshop is open to graduates from any discipline who are willing to contribute as volunteers to the SN Chand Cine Archive & Museum, MSFDS. Interested candidates may apply online through the official MSFDS website, www.msfds.org, on or before 3rd April 2026. Participation will be based on selection, as intake is limited.
This workshop, one of its kind in the country, will be conducted by award-winning film conservator Dr. Johnson Rajkumar and is being organised as part of the 5th Foundation Day of the SN Chand Cine Archive & Museum.
Also, the 16th Manipur State Film Awards, 2024 (honouring films of 2023) will be held on 18th April 2026, followed by screenings of the award-winning films. The 17th Manipur State Film Awards, 2025 (honouring films of 2024) will be held on 19th April 2026, also followed by screenings of the winners. As per tradition, the Governor of Manipur will confer the awards at the Palace Auditorium, MSFDS.
