MSF to observe Students’ Martyrdom in remembrance of Pebam Chittaranjan

Imphal July 16: Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) will observe Students’ Martyrdom on 16th August, 2014 in remembrance of Pebam Chittaranjan who had torched himself in demand to repeal Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA-1958) on the 15th August, 2004.

In a press meet held today at the office of MSF, Vice President of MSF R.N. Koireng said that Pebam Chittaranjan sacrificed his life by joining the protest of the people of the state against the Armed Forces Special Powers Act following the killing of Thangjam Chanu Manorama by the personnel of Assam Rifles on 11th July, 2004. He was the advisor of MSF, Bishnupur District Council by that time. MSF has been observing 16th July as Students’ Martyrdom as he had sacrificed his life as a student.

He further said that as a part of the observance, students will pay floral tribute to Chittaranjan at Bishnupur Keithel and Takhellambam Leikai. This will be followed by a public rally. Finally the students and participants will assemble at THAU Ground and a public meeting will be orgainised there. A blood donation camp will also be organized on the same day.

R.N. Koireng also appealed to the people of the state to extend support to make the observance success.
