The Youth Front of the Manipur People’s Party (MPP) submitted an urgent Charter of Demands to the Governor of Manipur today, ahead of the Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to the state. The organization conveyed that the document reflected the ongoing crisis in Manipur, highlighting issues such as displacement, economic collapse, and social fragmentation affecting both the youth and the general population.
According to the Youth Front, the Charter included several critical demands requiring immediate government intervention. They urged the state and central authorities to provide a dedicated Special Economic Grant aimed at reviving Manipur’s economy, rebuilding infrastructure, boosting agriculture, supporting MSMEs, and extending relief to families affected by recent unrest.
The organization also insisted on the complete removal of the buffer zone within the state, describing it as an artificial division of communities that restricts freedom of movement. They called for the safe return of relief camp inmates and proposed direct benefit transfers for affected individuals, emphasizing that displaced citizens must be restored to their original homes with security and dignity.
The Youth Front further highlighted the unemployment crisis among Manipur’s youth, urging the central government to announce a time-bound package for employment and entrepreneurship tailored to young people’s needs. They emphasized the necessity of freedom of movement across the state, advocating for the removal of checkpoints and other restrictions.
The organization warned that if the demands were not addressed or the Prime Minister’s visit failed to deliver meaningful announcements, it would boycott the visit. They clarified that this stance represented a peaceful, democratic expression of public frustration rather than a threat, intended to press authorities to focus on action over rhetoric.
