The President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee today mocked the ruling BJP government in Manipur for celebrating ‘Good Governance Day’ while the state is in disarray.
“It is an insult to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee,” said Meghachandra, highlighting that with a complete breakdown in law and order, people living in fear of bullets every day, a ban on internet access for over 7 months, and ongoing crises, the significance of celebrating Good Governance Day is questionable.
Meghachandra also criticized MLA Shanti for harassing internally displaced people seeking shelter at relief camps. Instead of providing assistance, the state government is further mistreating these individuals, leaving them as refugees in their own state.
Recalling Rahul Gandhi’s statement in parliament, where he suggested that the central and state governments could have resolved the crisis in Manipur together, Meghachandra claimed that the double-engine government wanted the violence to continue.
“How can they celebrate Good Governance Day when over 60,000 people are displaced, their homes destroyed and burnt, and they are struggling to survive?” Meghachandra questioned. He further mocked the BJP government for celebrating good governance while law and order has completely failed in Manipur and the people are divided.
In addition, the MPCC President criticized the silence of the three MPs from Manipur in parliament, suggesting that they have been instructed not to speak on the issue.
