New Delhi, March 19:
Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, Member of Parliament from Inner Manipur, voiced serious concerns over the frequent blockades on National Highways, particularly NH-2 and NH-37, during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha today.
Addressing the House, Dr. Akoijam underscored the adverse effects of these disruptions, citing soaring prices of essential commodities, rising transportation costs, and severe restrictions on the movement of people and goods. He emphasized that such blockades infringe upon the fundamental right to free movement and livelihood, causing immense hardship to the people of Manipur.
Urging the Union Government to intervene, Dr. Akoijam called for stringent measures to prevent such disruptions and ensure the unhindered flow of essential supplies and transport in the region. He stressed the importance of maintaining law and order along these crucial lifelines, highlighting the need for a long-term solution to the recurring crisis.
The issue of highway blockades in Manipur has been a persistent challenge, impacting not only the state’s economy but also the daily lives of its citizens. Dr. Akoijam’s intervention reflects growing concerns over the urgency of government action to address the situation effectively.
