MP Bimol Akoijam moves adjournment motion on Manipur crisis in Lok Sabha

Member of Parliament Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on Tuesday moved a Notice of Adjournment Motion in the Lok Sabha seeking an urgent discussion on the prolonged humanitarian crisis in Manipur.
During the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, Dr. Bimol Akoijam has also raised several questions related to the situation of internally displaced persons in the state. Earlier, while speaking during a discussion on Vande Mataram in the House, he had called for a dedicated discussion of at least three hours on the Manipur situation. The Adjournment Motion was moved as a follow-up to that demand, with the aim of bringing the issue before the House for urgent consideration.
In the notice, Dr. Bimol Akoijam drew attention to the continued displacement of more than sixty thousand internally displaced persons, many of whom are facing their third consecutive winter in relief camps. He highlighted the persistent failure to restore peace, ensure accountability, and facilitate the safe and dignified rehabilitation of those affected by the violence.
Although the Adjournment Motion was not admitted, Dr. Bimol Akoijam has continued to raise the Manipur issue during parliamentary debates and proceedings. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the humanitarian, constitutional and accountability dimensions of the crisis receive sustained attention in Parliament.
The Member of Parliament stressed that legislative oversight is essential not only to address the suffering of displaced persons and restore peace in Manipur, but also to uphold constitutional governance and prevent similar failures in the future.
