Month-long plastic collection campaign concludes at Sendra

A month-long Plastic Collection Campaign sponsored by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur, and conducted by the Anouba Mangal Foundation, Sendra, concluded successfully today. The initiative, carried out in collaboration with local clubs, Meira Paibis, Women Self-Help Groups, youths, and volunteers from Sendra and neighbouring villages, marked a significant step toward reducing plastic pollution around the Loktak Lake region.
During the campaign, several tonnes of plastic waste were collected from various parts of Sendra and its adjoining areas. In addition to collection drives, the Foundation conducted a series of awareness and brainstorming sessions with key stakeholders — including street vendors along Sendra Road, players of the Bishnupur District Canoeing, Kayaking and Rowing Association, members of Hee Yai Self Help Group, Sendra Ningthou Self Help Group, Loktak Lake Tourism Development Cooperative Society Ltd., and the Karang Island Motor Boat and Boat Association.
Following extensive consultations, several key tourist and strategic sites were identified for the installation of Plastic Bottle Banks to ensure sustainable waste management. These include Sendra Roadside, Eastern Lake Front, Sendra, Ithing Village, Ithing Heikol, Ithing Takmu, Ithing Kholla, Karang Island Landing Area, and Karang Village.
The Anouba Mangal Foundation urged the concerned authorities to provide and install Plastic Bottle Banks at these locations to strengthen ongoing efforts for plastic waste management in the Loktak Lake area.
Although the sponsored campaign has officially concluded, the Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to continue similar collection and awareness initiatives in the future. It also appealed to tourists and the general public to extend their cooperation in maintaining the ecological health and cleanliness of Loktak Lake.
The campaign stood as a testament to community participation and environmental stewardship, with enthusiastic involvement from women and youth. The Anouba Mangal Foundation expressed deep gratitude to the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur, for its valuable support and to all volunteers and partners whose dedication made the month-long campaign a success.
