Imphal, Sept 1:
Month long observance of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot begins today at the office of the Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) at Wahengbam Leikai. Fitting tribute was paid to the portrait of the pioneer Manipuri leader which is organized by the Lamyanba Irabot Ningsing Thouram Observation Committee (LINTOC) under the aegis of the PPCM.
September is significant for the people of Manipur as this is the month where all important events related to Lamyanba Irabot and Manipur happened. Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was born on September 30, 1896 and died on September 26, 1951. The leader went underground on September 21, 1948. On this same day in 1949, then nominal head of the government of Manipur Maharaj Bodhachandra signed a controversial merger agreement with the representatives of the government of India.
Convenor of PPCM Ph. Nando Luwang said that the month of September will be dedicated to the pioneer leader Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, who had sacrificed for the cause of the people of Manipur.
