The Monsang community marked a significant milestone as it celebrated 100 years of Christianity with a grand centenary event. As part of the celebration, the General Secretary of the National Council of Baptist Churches of India (NCBCI), Rev. Samaresh Nayak, unveiled a commemorative monument.
The event, organized by the Monsang Naga Baptist Churches Association (MNBCA) and The Monsang Naga Christian Centenary Celebration (1925-2025), was held at the Mission Centre in Khoriibung, Japhou, Chandel District. Themed “Celebrating God’s Faithfulness,” the celebration brought together church leaders, faithful believers, and dignitaries from various Baptist associations.
The program commenced with an opening prayer led by Rev. Th. Rockson, former Youth Secretary of MNBCA. This was followed by the Centenary Worship Service, where the Aimol Baptist Association (ABA) Choir performed hymns, moving the congregation with their soulful rendition. Special songs were also presented by Liwa Changning Baptist Church, Japhou Baptist Church, and Monsang Baptist Fellowship Imphal, adding to the spiritual fervor of the occasion.
Representatives from different Baptist associations across Chandel and Tengnoupal districts participated in the event, exchanging gifts and blessings as a gesture of unity and shared faith.
Addressing the gathering, Shongsir Dilbert, Chairman of the MNBCA Centenary Planning Committee, highlighted the historical significance of February 11, 1925. He recounted how five Monsang youths embraced the Baptist faith in Chakpikarong, marking the beginning of Christianity in the Monsang Naga community. The centenary celebration, he said, stands as a testament to the unwavering faith and growth of the community over the past century.
Among the distinguished attendees were MNBCA President Upa Kh. Mobershing, former Women Secretary Ts. Thumdin, Executive Secretary Rev. Alani Shongsir, Chothe Baptist Churches Association Executive Secretary Rev. Dr. Hranum Khiang, Maring Naga Baptist Association Executive Secretary Rev. D. Song-in, Pastor Rev. G. Khartu of Liwa Sarei Baptist Church, Pastor Upa Ng. Bengamshing of Changnhe Baptist Church, former MNBCA Executive Secretary Rev. W. Moses, and MNBCA Vice President Upa K. Tathangam, among others.
The event concluded with prayers and expressions of gratitude, marking a historic moment for the Monsang Christian community.
