Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand today announced that improvement works on the Moirang–Wangoo road in Bishnupur district will commence within 15 days. He also stated that repair of the Sugnu–Napet bridge will begin from tomorrow under the supervision of Sanasam Premchandra, MLA of Kumbi Assembly Constituency, and is expected to be completed within five days to facilitate the return and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Napet.
The Chief Minister made the announcement during a felicitation programme held at the residence of MLA Sanasam Premchandra in Kumbi.
He further informed that upon completion of the Moirang–Wangoo road stretch via Kumbi, construction of other remaining roads in the area would also be taken up in a phased manner. Stating that resettlement is essential for restoring normalcy in the crisis-affected state, he said his government is according priority to measures aimed at restoring peace and enabling displaced families from both affected communities to return to their respective villages. Reconstruction of damaged houses, he added, would be undertaken with assistance from Central funds.
Observing that peace remains the only viable solution to the ongoing crisis, the Chief Minister pointed out that a prevailing trust deficit has prevented members of one community from moving freely in areas dominated by another. He called upon the public to work towards rebuilding mutual trust, asserting that without peace, meaningful development in the state would be unattainable. He also remarked that people should be aware of those obstructing the resettlement process of IDPs from both communities.
Speaking at the function, MLA Sanasam Premchandra urged people to rise above political differences and avoid divisions driven by narrow interests. He appealed for unity and collective efforts to ensure developmental initiatives and progress in the state.
The programme was attended by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, T. Robindro, MLA of Thanga Assembly Constituency, MLA Sanasam Premchandra, and Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur Pooja Elangbam, among other officials.
During the event, the Chief Minister was accorded a warm reception with traditional presentation of garlands and gifts.
