Ukhrul, April 12:
The Social Welfare Department has invited applications under Mission Vatsalya – Integrated Child Protection Scheme for the financial year 2026–27, offering a monthly sponsorship of Rs. 4,000 to eligible school-going children below 18 years of age.
According to District Child Protection officials in Ukhrul, the initiative aims to provide financial and social support to children facing difficult circumstances, ensuring that economic hardship does not disrupt their education, safety, and overall development.
Eligible beneficiaries include children of widowed, divorced, or abandoned mothers, orphans living with extended families, and children whose parents are suffering from terminal illnesses or are physically or financially incapacitated.
The scheme also covers children in extreme vulnerability, including homeless children, victims of natural disasters, child labourers, survivors of child marriage and trafficking, HIV/AIDS-affected children, children with disabilities, missing or runaway children, and those who have experienced abuse, exploitation, or require rehabilitation.
Officials stated that the programme seeks to strengthen family-based care and prevent institutionalisation by enabling children to remain within their communities.
Application forms can be obtained from the District Child Protection Unit under the Department of Social Welfare at the Mini Secretariat, Western Block, First Floor, Ukhrul, during office hours.
Authorities have urged parents, guardians, educational institutions, and civil society organisations to spread awareness to ensure that all eligible children benefit from the scheme.
The last date for submission of applications is April 20, 2026. Officials said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and securing their future.
