Missing girl found dead suspiciously

Imphal, June 19: A 21 year old girl, who went missing since June 11, was found dead in a suspicious manner at Thoubal Canal near Thoubal Police station at around 9 am today. The dead body was first noticed by passerby and reported to police. As the body was found in decomposed state, police and the locals were unable to guess on whether dead body was of female or male at first sight. But later, on verification by the family members the dead body was confirmed to be of female.
The deceased identified as Elangbam Kanon Devi , daughter of Panchamani of Khangabok Part –II, Khulakpam leikai was reported to be missing since June 11. A missing report was filed at Thoubal police station on June 13.
Materials found from around the place where the dead body was found suggested that the girl might have been left to death after having illicit activities with some miscreants. Family said the girl also had some mental problem.
The dead body was later picked up and deposited at RIMS morgue after a team of forensic experts inspected the area. Autopsy will be conducted to find out the cause of the death.
