Minister Biswajit reviews ongoing NHIDCL Projects; Instructs NHIDCL for early completion of projects

Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh today chaired an overall review meeting of ongoing highway projects taken up by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Company Ltd (NHIDCL) in the conference hall of his New Secretariat Office.
During the review meeting, Biswajit strictly instructed the officials to maintain quality in their road construction and said work on Package 2 along NH 2 (upto Lokchao) which is already complete is quite satisfactory. The issues pertaining to land acquisition was also deliberated upon with the DC, Thoubal. Officials of NHIDCL presented status reports of ongoing projects.
The Minister said that the NHIDCL should ensure that work under Package 1 and 3 are also accomplished as far as possible before the start of the monsoon season. Further ensuring all possible cooperation to the company, he also pointed out the need for them to expedite work on Makru and Barak bridges and complete them by February next year.
He stressed that all road developmental projects in the State are taken up under the initiative of the Chief Minister to improve connectivity. Better connectivity will ensure more effective logistics enhancing economic activities in the State.
Regarding shifting of electricity poles during construction work, the Minister directed the NHIDCL officials to communicate and cooperate with the concerned authorities of the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd (MSPDCL) and ensure public safety during shifting of poles and electric wire.
On their part, the NHIDCL officials highlighted their issues including forest clearance works and land acquisition before the Minister. He said NHIDCL should also check that the developmental works minimise negative impacts on the environment.
Further elaborating that major and important projects need to be completed at the earliest, the Minister said that NHIDCL should also lay emphasis on road improvement works of already completed projects.
The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary Works P Vaiphei, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal, officials of Public Works Department among others. NHIDCL was represented by General Manager, RO, Imphal Col.RK. Swain (retd), Senior Project Manager, GR Infra Ltd. Imphal Iswar Singh Arya.
